Free Community Wellness Seminar Coping with Economic Stress

With the crisis on Wall Street, a boom of home foreclosures, and high energy and food prices throughout the country, no one can blame you for feeling anxious or overwhelmed. These days it is common and understandable to be angry, worried and even gloomy, especially if you lost your retirement fund, your job, your house, or are stressed about paying the bills.
Worry, anger and stress are normal, appropriate and even necessary during life's difficult moments. But when negative feelings prevent you from doing your daily activities or interacting with friends and loved ones, it might be time to seek help.
Tough economic times like these can add to an individuals or families stress, anxiety or depression. These stressors if left untreated can have overall effects on an individual’s emotional health and well being. We see with any increased stress the results on family, job function and relationships.
On Wednesday October 15th at 7:00 pm the Ben Gordon Center will also offer a free community wellness seminar on coping with economic stress. Here the staff of the Ben Gordon Center will offer strategies on coping with anxiety, stress and depression as well as indicators if professional counseling series are needed.

Beginning October 8th as part of National Depression Screening day and through out the month of October, the Ben Gordon Center is offering Free Depression Screenings everyday between the hours of 8:30 and 5:00 p.m No appointment is necessary. Free Community Movie Premiere of Jumping Off Bridges
The Ben Gordon Center, Family Service Agency, Youth Service Bureau and Suicide Prevention Services are proud to bring to our community the award winning film, jumping off bridges.
And you’re invited to this free première screening of this on Friday October 10th at 7:00 pm at Kishwaukee College Jenkins Auditorium. Meet the Writer and Director Kat Candler along with Star Bryan Chafin at the event. No tickets are needed for this free community Event.

Ben Gordon Center Celebrates 40 years of caring with a Chairman’s Luncheon
Registration for Ben Gordon Center Dodge Ball Tournament Underway!
The Ben Gordon Center Foundation will be holding the third Charity Dodge Ball Tournament on Saturday November 8th at NIU’s Chick Evans Field House.
PJ Fleck Assistant Football Coach at Northern Illinois University is the Honorary Chair of this Exciting Community Wide Event. Divisions include Youth grades 4-12 (Boys, and Co-Ed) Adults (Men and Co-ed), Business divisions.
